On March 4, Vladimir Putin signed the “Fake News” laws, which introduced new articles into the criminal and administrative codes. These laws prohibit citizens from expressing opinions and, especially, protesting against the war.
These laws directly contradict the Constitution of Russia, which bans censorship and guarantees freedom of thought, speech, and the right to hold and disseminate one’s beliefs. However, the authorities do not care.
The “Fake News” laws are only needed to prosecute those who oppose the war. In the six months of the war, the courts have considered 2,029 cases of “discrediting” the Russian army — through these show trials, the state keeps civil society in fear.
We want our civil liberties back! To protest and show mass dissatisfaction with the repressions, we are launching a campaign to send appeals to the State Duma deputies demanding the repeal of the “Fake News” laws.
Appeals are a safe way to influence the authorities, as they are prohibited from prosecuting individuals for sending them. Join our campaign, share the link to the website with your friends, and encourage them to send letters to the deputies!
Russia will be free!
